Bioshoes4All Open House
Innovation with Every Step
On July 3rd, Monteiro Fabrics opened its doors to host a special demonstration day for the Bioshoes4All project. Organized by APICCAPS, this open house welcomed around 70 visitors — including project partners and key representatives from IAPMEI, AICEP, Direção Geral da Economia, and the President of Estrutura de Missão Recuperar Portugal.
It was a valuable opportunity to bring the industry and institutions together for a close-up view of sustainable innovation in action.
ORIGIN 72% biobased
During the visit, guests experienced live demonstrations of our production process, from raw bio-based inputs to finished materials.
In our laboratory, we revealed how bio-waste incorporation starts: through systematic experimentation, with over 16 bio-waste sources tested across hundreds of lab trials, dozens of mechanical tests, and several pilot and industrial runs.
The result? Three fully viable, industry-ready collections now at TRL 9 — a key milestone for industrial scalability.
But innovation wasn't just seen — it was worn.
Our team proudly walked the talk, quite literally, wearing sneakers produced by RXMShoes, made with ORIGIN — a material developed by Monteiro Fabrics that is 72% bio-based and includes olive tree waste.
This was one of three fully developed collections now ready for industrial scale-up — each with a unique material story:
PEEL COLLECTION - 65% biobased, incorporating chestnut residues
ORIGIN COLLECTION - 72% biobased, incorporating olive tree residues
MOYO COLLECTION- 51% recycled content
A tangible example of how textile innovation can power a more sustainable future for the footwear industry.
