What makes a fabric medical-grade?
"Medical-grade" isn't a single certificate — it's the set of properties a fabric has to meet to be safe and durable in clinical use. Ours are built to clear that bar:
- Antimicrobial & antifungal — the surface inhibits the growth of bacteria, fungi and mould.
- Fluid-proof — a non-absorbent, waterproof surface that resists spills and bodily fluids.
- Disinfectant-tolerant — wipes clean with alcohol-based disinfectants and diluted bleach without cracking or fading.
- Phthalate-free & REACH-compliant — formulated without phthalates and compliant with EU chemical regulation.
- Heavy-duty & flame-retardant — contract-grade abrasion resistance and fire-safety classification for demanding environments.

Frequently asked questions
How do medical-grade fabrics differ from the healthcare range?
The healthcare collection covers general hospital, clinic and care-home upholstery, while the medical range is a focused selection of technical fabrics — including bi-elastic Mediflex — for medical devices and specialist applications that need extra stretch, hygiene and durability.
Which standards and certificates do they carry?
Our medical-grade fabrics are antimicrobial and antifungal, fluid-proof, phthalate-free and REACH-compliant, and carry flammability classifications for contract use. The specific test standards and certificates for each fabric are listed on its technical data sheet — ask our technical team for the current certificates.
Can these fabrics be cleaned with alcohol or bleach?
Yes. The coated surface is designed to be wiped down with alcohol-based disinfectants and diluted bleach solutions used in clinical cleaning, without cracking or losing colour. Avoid abrasive pads and undiluted solvents. See our care and cleaning guidance for detail.
Are the medical fabrics antimicrobial?
Yes — the range inhibits the growth of bacteria, fungi and mould on the fabric surface, helping maintain hygiene on high-contact medical surfaces.
What is Mediflex used for?
Mediflex is a bi-elastic medical fabric that stretches in multiple directions, making it suited to shaped and moulded surfaces such as medical mattresses, positioning aids and contoured seating.
Can I order samples of the medical collection?
Yes — request free samples or the full technical data sheet, and our specialists will help you match the right fabric to your specification.
