Innovation and Capacity Building of the Footwear Sector for a Sustainable Bioeconomy
The integrated project “BioShoes4All – Innovation and Capacity Building of the Footwear Sector for a Sustainable Bioeconomy” is structured around 5 Intervention Pillars (P), each aligned with concrete objectives aimed at developing new bio-based and eco-friendly materials, products, processes, technologies, and services.
These pillars are organised into 11 Initiatives (I) and 23 Measures (M), ensuring intrinsic coherence and complementarity among the proposed interventions.
The project was designed to ensure that each Pillar is multidisciplinary yet cohesive, integrating Initiatives and Measures that are well sequenced and ultimately lead to the development of products and solutions with high technological value and innovation. These outcomes hold strong potential for adoption and economic valorisation by companies within the Cluster, contributing to increased productivity and international competitiveness.
Below is a detailed presentation of the project’s structure, including the Initiatives and Measures within each Pillar.
Goals
• Development of new bio-based and eco-friendly materials, components, and production processes
• Footwear and leather goods: functional, durable, circular, and with a reduced environmental footprint
• Advanced and digital production technologies (automation, robotization, in-situ recycling, etc.)
• Solutions for the valorisation of production waste and post-consumer products
• Reduction of the sector’s environmental footprint / its products (carbon, water, fossil-based, chemicals)
• Implementation of industrial pilot lines, dissemination, and demonstration of innovations
• Capacity building for the sector, development of content, and execution of training actions
• Consumer engagement and awareness to promote sustainable consumption
• Broad promotion of the footwear sector within the bioeconomy and circular economy, both nationally and internationally
