Fire-Retardant Upholstery Fabrics

Coated upholstery fabrics tested to BS 5852 Crib 5 — and Crib 7 for higher-risk venues — for contract seating in hotels, restaurants, healthcare, offices and public spaces. From the 236-colour CHANCE range to 400,000-Martindale MARA, FURNA and GARBE, every fabric here is made in Portugal.

Crib 5 and Crib 7 are ignition sources of BS 5852; Crib 7 is the more demanding test, used for high-traffic, higher-risk venues such as stadiums and auditoriums — choose CHANCE Crib 7 | B1. Not sure which you need? Read Crib 5 vs Crib 7: which flammability rating do you need?

Frequently asked questions

What do BS 5852 Crib 5 and Crib 7 mean?

BS 5852 is the British Standard method for assessing the ignitability of upholstered seating. Crib 5 and Crib 7 are two of its wooden-crib ignition sources; Crib 7 is the larger and more demanding of the two.

Which fabric meets Crib 7?

CHANCE Crib 7 | B1. It is also certified to DIN 4102 B1 and NF P 92-507 M1, and is designed for high-traffic venues such as stadiums and auditoriums.

Do these fabrics carry other fire certifications?

Yes. Each collection lists its full set of fire certifications on its product page — for example EN 1021-1+2 and IMO 2010 FTP Code Part 8 on several collections. Ask our team for the test reports your project requires.

Does the fabric certificate cover the finished chair?

A fire test covers the fabric as tested with the composite described in its report. Confirm the full upholstery build — foam, interliner and fabric — for your own project.

Can I order samples?

Yes — samples are free. Add them to your cart from any collection, or contact us for project specifications.
